Memories not poses

Castlerigg Stone circle weddings

A few weeks ago I heard the news that my next door neighbour who I grew up with alongside my sister had sadly passed away. Her name was Helen so I was big Helen (as I was older) and she was little Helen. We spent years playing snail races, cafes and riding our bikes around each other’s houses.

When I moved away from home I met Helen a few times in Sheffield by chance and at a wedding we photographed. Last year she messaged me to ask if we could capture her wedding to Richard at Askham Hall in the Lake District. It was a small intimate wedding and we enjoyed heading off afterwards to Castlerigg Stone Circle and Derwentwater in Keswick for some more portraits. I didn’t know at the time that she was poorly and it hit me like a truck to hear she had gone.

The photos and the video provide such an important memory to Richard and their family. I heard how they watched the video in the hospice and it struck me just how important it is what we do. So much of wedding photography these days is focused on trends and tik tok transitions and creating content for social media reels.

There is something to be said for the fact that the photographs can capture the true emotions and memories of your day, I have been told countless times about how important it was for people to see their loved ones captured before they passed. Not only this but we make sure to capture the emotions of the day, the little moments in between the poses. The happy family cuddles, the funny things that happen during confetti lines like when you get a giant clump of confetti on your nose! Yes those photos are not maybe the ones you will frame but they are the ones that you will remember forever.

The video Paul captures is so important too, with the ability to have the best sound quality for speeches means you can watch this back afterwards and remember everything your Dad said.

We feel so privileged to be asked to capture your day and don’t take that lightly, with that in mind here are a few unscripted funny and heart-warming moments from some of our weddings last year.

Our love to all of our couples past and present and your families, thanks for letting us into your lives for the day!
